What is a NEMA Plug and It’s Types?
NEMA plugs are highly powerful electric plugins and receptacles that are used for AC mains electricity in the standard set of the US power rule-following nations. It is a standard set by the US National Electrical Manufacturers Association.
Wiring used in Nema plug types is made from the current rating between 15 to 60 amperes (A), with voltage ratings from 125 to 600 volts (V). In a NEMA plug different types of compositions are used such as various blade widths, shapes, dimensions, and orientation to create a connector with the non-interchangeable capabilities that come in the multiple combinations of voltage, electric currents capability and grounding systems.
There are a variety of different types of NEMA plugs available in the market that can be used by you as per your requirements. For instance –
• NEMA 1-15P and NEMA 5-15P plugs are used for the common household places to operate regular domestic equipment.
• NEMA 5-15R and NEMA 14-50 are standard outlets found in the United States, and under relevant national standards, Canada, Mexico, and Japan.
There are plenty of other NEMA plugs and receptacles available that are used for commercial or other special purposes to operate heavy-duty applications.
